All of the following information is applicable to all Audi Q8 Models such as the Audi SQ8.

How Does the Audi Q8 TPMS Work?

The Audi Q8 features an indirect TPMS system that effectively monitors tire pressure to maximize safety and performance. This system cleverly uses the vehicle’s built-in wheel speed sensors to track changes in tire pressure by evaluating differences in wheel rotation speeds. (To clarify, the Audi Q8/SQ8 does not use individual tire pressure sensors) When the system detects an inconsistency that could indicate a deflated tire, a warning light appears on the dashboard to inform the driver.

When to Reset Audi Q8 Tire Light?

  • After tire rotation

  • Following a tire pressure adjustment

  • When replacing one or more tires (always use OEM sizes)

  • After installing new wheels or rims (always use OEM sizes)

  • If the TPMS warning light stays on after inflating a tire to the correct pressure

  • After a seasonal tire change (switching between summer and winter tires)

  • When swapping a spare tire for a regular tire after a flat

  • After any tire or wheel-related service or repair (wheel balances or alignments)

  • In case of a low battery or after replacing the vehicle’s battery. (this includes jumping or replacing batteries)

What are Common Causes for Tire Pressure Lights to Turn On?

  • Low tire pressure in one or more tires

  • A flat tire or slow leak due to puncture or damage to the tire or rim. (Rim cracks are very common in high performance wheels)

  • Significant changes in ambient temperature affecting tire pressure. (hot temperature will increased tire pressure, cold temperature will decrease tire pressure)

  • Tire pressure inconsistency after tire rotation without resetting the iTPMS

  • Mismatched tire sizes or types on the vehicle (always use OEM size tires to prevent TPMS issues)

  • Uneven tire wear or irregular tread patterns

  • Incorrect tire inflation during maintenance or service (double check your tire pressures if light comes on after vehicle service)

  • Malfunctioning or damaged wheel speed sensors

  • TPMS software or calibration issues

  • A low or depleted vehicle battery affecting the TPMS functionality

What Happens When Tires are Underinflated?

Maintaining the correct tire pressure in the Audi Q8 is crucial for ensuring optimal vehicle performance, safety, and efficiency. Properly inflated tires provide better traction, handling, and stability. This is important for your driving experience and reducing the risk of accidents. Correct tire pressure helps to improve fuel economy by reducing rolling resistance, meaning less fuel consumption and emissions. Also, properly inflated tires distribute the vehicle’s weight evenly across the tread. This prevents uneven tire tread wear and prolongs the lifespan of the tires. Ultimately, maintaining the appropriate tire pressure in an Audi Q8/SQ8 not only safeguards the driver and passengers but also contributes to a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective driving experience!
