HOW DOES THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM FUNCTION IN AN AUDI A5
The tire pressure monitoring system in your Audi A5 exists as a safety feature. The TPMS light illuminates when one or more of your tires is under-inflated by 25% or more. Audi’s tire pressure system uses the vehicle’s ABS sensors to monitor the pressures in each tire. (anti-lock braking system) The TPMS compares the vibration characteristics and tire tread circumference of each tire individually. When the instrument cluster (dashboard) shows a low tire pressure warning, this indicates that the pressure has changed in at least one tire. Audi also has a TPMS malfunction indicator. If the (!) indicator is blinking or flashing for about a minute and then goes solid and stays on, this likely means the TPMS system is malfunctioning. HOW TO RESET THE AUDI A5 TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM
Before following this procedure, make sure all four tires have been filled to the correct specified tire pressure values.
Start the vehicle, and select MENU in the infotainment system. Select VEHICLE > SERVICE & CHECKS > TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING > STORE TIRE PRESSURE > YES, STORE NOW.
WHEN TO RESET THE AUDI A5 TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM
Anytime the tire pressures in the tires have been adjusted, it is necessary to store the new pressures in the infotainment system. (Dashboard) It is also necessary to reset the system when tires are changed or rotated. Lastly, when the load of the vehicle changes (excessive weight in the vehicle), follow the reset procedure. If the TPMS is malfunctioning (tire pressure light blinks repeatedly for a minute then goes solid upon vehicle start-up, try resetting the TPMS system, then driving the vehicle for at least 10 minutes) Lastly, do not store tire pressures if snow chains are installed on tires.
reasons the audi a5 tire pressure warning light will come on:
- one or more tires have to low pressure
- one or more tires have structural damage
- the tire has been replaced or the tire pressure has changed and not reset.
- the spare tire (being a different size than OEM tires) can also cause the tire pressure light to illuminate.
- the tire pressure monitoring system can stop working correctly if there is an ESC problem/malfunction.
- If extreme weather occurs, check tires, adjust tire pressures are necessary, then reset.
