Having a functioning Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is essential for the safety and efficiency of your vehicle. Mercedes TPMS provides drivers with warnings when one or more tires are underinflated. This reduces the risk of tire blowouts and improves fuel economy. However, it’s important to understand how TPMS works and when resetting this system is necessary in order to ensure that your car runs smoothly. In this blog post, we will discuss the warning messages associated with TPMS malfunction as well as tips on how to reset the system properly.
HOW TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE
To begin, unscrew the valve cap of the tire to be examined. Firmly press the tire pressure gauge onto the valve for a pressure reading. Compare the tire pressure to the recommended value on the Tire placard. If the tire pressure is not correct, adjust the pressure. To prevent overinflating, be sure to release air from the tires when necessary. Press down the metal pin in the valve to release excess air. Next, retest the tire pressure. Screw the valve cap back on and repeat these steps for the other tires.
We recommend regular tire examinations when the tires are cold. The tire pressure information can be found on the driver’s side door B-pillar or the tire pressure label on the inside of the fuel filler flap. Here is a link to a great tire pressure gauge on amazon.
STEPS TO RESET TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM
STEP 1: FILL TIRES TO RECOMMENDED PSI.
STEP 2: TURN IGNITION TO ON.
STEP 3: USE ARROWS ON LEFT SIDE OF STEERING WHEEL, SCROLL OVER TO SERVICE.
STEP 4: SCROLL DOWN, SELECT TIRE PRESSURE.
STEP 5: AFTER SELECTING TIRE PRESSURE, SELECT THE DOWN ARROW ON STEERING WHEEL.STEP 6: “USE CURRENT PRESSURES AS NEW REFERENCE VALUES” WILL APPEAR, SELECT OK ON STEERING WHEEL.
TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR IS NOW RESTARTED. After TPMS restart, all existing warning messages are deleted and the warning messages will go off. The TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) will now use the most recent tire pressure values as reference values.
MERCEDES TPMS FUNCTION
For driver protection, Mercedes S550 is outfitted with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The tire pressure monitoring system will alert you when one or more of your tires falls below the recommended inflation level. Consequently, if you observe the low tire pressure warning sign on your dashboard, it is essential to immediately pull over and inspect your tires. Subsequently, inflate them back up to their correct psi level. Cruising with a tire that is significantly underinflated can generate excess heat, ultimately resulting in the possibility of tire blowout. Underinflation will also decrease your vehicle’s fuel efficiency as well as the life of the tire tread.
As you’re driving, the tire pressure loss warning system constantly keeps track of your tires’ target pressure levels by monitoring wheel revolutions. With this technology, the system can accurately identify pressure loss in a tire before it becomes serious. If the wheel speed rotation changes due to loss of pressure, the display on the vehicle will show a low-pressure warning light.
Your Mercedes S550 also has a TPMS malfunction indicator has been included in your car to notify you when the system is not functioning correctly. The TPMS malfunction indicator uses the same tire pressure light. For approximately a minute, the warning lamp will flash whenever an issue is detected in the system. Afterward, it will stay on permanently. Each time you turn on the car, this sequence will be enacted as long as the malfunctions continue. When the malfunction indicator light is activated, the vehicles system might not detect or alert you when tire pressure levels are low.
TPMS WARNINGS AND TIPS
Tire Pressure Warning Messages
When the tire pressure monitoring system detects a pressure loss in one or more tires, the vehicle’s display will show a warning message. There are three possible warning messages.
PLEASE CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE – if you see this message, at least one tire is low and needs correcting.
CHECK TIRES – this message means at least one tire has dropped significantly and the tires must be checked immediately.
WARNING TIRE MALFUNCTION – this message occurs when one or more tires have decreased suddenly.
No matter what message your vehicle’s display shows, they all mean that your tires need to be checked and corrected. After correcting the tire pressures, follow the TPMS reset procedure.
It is essential to take the necessary steps in order to maintain a healthy tire pressure monitoring system. Following the reset procedure after any changes or adjustments are made, such as a tire rotation or replacement of tires and wheels, will help ensure that your TPMS warnings remain accurate. Furthermore, familiarizing yourself with the three possible warning messages can provide you with an extra layer of protection when driving on the road. By taking these precautions, you can stay safe and secure knowing that your vehicle’s
Tire Pressure Monitoring System is functioning properly.
